Toshiba PDA: Toshiba Portege G810




Toshiba doesn't make many Windows Mobile PDA phones. But with Toshiba PDA Portege G810, they go for cutting-edge features and trendy elements.

Released at the end of June 2008, Toshiba PDA G810 comes with features and high-end specs. With a glossy black color, the Toshiba PDA looks very modern with elegant slate design. The G810 is a quad band GSM phone with worldwide 3G that also works in US. Since Toshiba doesn't market the device in the US, the Toshiba PDA is sold by importers.

The Toshiba Portege G810 powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The Toshiba PDA phone runs on a 400MHz Qualcomm CPU with 128 megs of RAM, 256 megs of ROM and an SDHC microSD card slot. Portege G810 includes a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus lens, 3G HSDPA, integrated GPS, WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR and FM radio. The G10 also known as one of the first Windows Mobile phones with HSUPA for faster uploads.

Portege G810 is Toshiba PDA phone with the flush screen design. Not only more attractive, the flush design allows easier finger access to the display. Using a extremely bright, colorful and very sharp 64 thousand color 2.83" touch screen, that's one of the best display among Windows Mobile PDA phones. Better than any other Windows Mobile PDA phones, the G810's display is viewable outdoors.

Toshiba PDA Portege G810 came up with a stylus that doubles as the side trim, integrate the stylus into the device's lines to avoid taking up extra space for a traditional silo. With the touch user interface, you won’t find yourself reaching for that stylus very often. On the front you’ll find the front-facing touch-sensitive controls dedicated to call send and end, the Windows Start menu and Home button that will take you back to the "now" home screen display. G810 user interface developed by SPB Software that actually is a bundling of SPB's Mobile Shell, Pocket Plus and full screen keyboard applications. The interface is stable and responsive. SPB Mobile Shell includes program launcher, today screen, dialer skin, phone profiles, weather and photo caller ID. All feature comes with large icons so its finger friendly. When you are in any program, swipe down from the title bar to bring up the Mobile Shell, and swipe down once again to dismiss it

Pros:
• Not too large PDA with a great looks & light.
• Bright, sharp and colorful display
• Good GPS, excellent camera, fast 3G HSDPA supports US bands and a great FM radio with RDS.
• The gloss touch-screen doesn't get as mucked up with fingerprints compared to similar PDAs.
• Excellent touch screen coupled with excellent SPB touch-friendly software enhance Windows Mobile's usability and fun factor.
• The bundled extras: Picsel Viewer, Image Editor and OCR for the camera (Image to Text)

Cons:
• Incoming call volume is a bit low and voice quality on both ends
• At highest resolutions, camera capture time is slow.
• Video capture isn't as impressive as still shots.
• Speaker isn't very loud for music playback.
• Battery life could be better.

Conclusion

Toshiba PDA Portege G810 does offer a very pleasing combination of style, a great touch screen, portability, and a full set of features for the power user: 3 megapixel camera with autofocus, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 and FM radio with RDS.
